Talk of the Town: Deerfield Beach
Did you know that the region of South Florida stretches over 100 miles along the coastline? Saying you’re from this area or are looking for homes to purchase here requires a little more specification given the large amount of area the term “South Florida” encompasses. Perhaps you want to live in a more metropolitan area like Miami or West Palm Beach, or maybe a smaller coastal town like Boynton Beach or a development in Weston is more your fancy. Regardless of your preferences, even those example towns we just listed are all a substantial distance away from one another! If you’re searching for a rental property or to buy a home here in South Florida, you’ll probably want to familiarize yourself with the many different cities and townships this area has to offer. While the best way to do so is to find an experienced local realtor you trust (like our agents!) to be your guide, having your own background knowledge of our slice of paradise is a good idea, too. To help you do this, we’re starting our “Talk of the Town” blog post series, where we’ll feature different cities in our area and do a mini-profile on each to give you a better idea of the local scene, cost of living, lifestyle, and more! In this installment, we’re taking a trip through Deerfield Beach, a quaint little surf town with amazing beaches & some of the most affordable housing in South Florida.
Setting the Scene
You’ll find this Broward town just beyond the Palm Beach County line, alongside Boca Raton & Pompano Beach. Though deemed the 10th largest city in Broward County, Deerfield Beach keeps its small town feel through its beachside aura, family-friendly spots, vast outdoor recreation options, and lots of local businesses for shopping, eating, and more. The town also hosts lots of events throughout the year, like the Renaissance Festival, Ocean Brews & Blues Festival, Fall Festival, and more, so there’s plenty to do for every occasion. All the while, Deerfield remains close to the big-city action: 30-40 minutes from West Palm Beach, 20-30 minutes to Fort Lauderdale, and 50-60 minutes to Miami.
A Peak at the Housing Market
Deerfield Beach is an ideal town for young couples, families, and professionals looking to live a classic Florida lifestyle without the hefty price tag. According to data from Realtor.com, the median listing price is just under $300k, and the median rent is $2,600/month. While renting is, of course, a viable option, Deerfield Beach is a great town for first-time homeowners, as the low listing price & variety of types of homes (think single-family homes, townhouses, condo complex units, or a new construction in a more upscale development) mean there's something for everyone. For families, the area has great school options in or just beyond the city limits, like Highlands Christian Academy, North Broward Preparatory School, and Winston Park Elementary School. Adult professionals, on the other hand, can greatly benefit from Deerfiend’s business friendly opportunities, like their entrepreneurship program and commitment to workforce development.
