5 Classic South Florida Activities Just in Time for Summer

May marks the beginning of the summer break season in South Florida, meaning the weather is starting to heat up & the kids are getting off school. Whether you’re new to the area or a long-time resident, there are a few activities that define a classic South Florida summer, where one can experience all that our region has to offer. In this blog post, we’re highlighting 5 of those activities that truly encapsulate the season.

1. Watersport equipment rentals

Whether it’s a jet ski, paddle board, or kayak, perhaps nothing is more indicative of a beach day or vacation than venturing out on the water and getting active. Watersports are great for those seeking activity and a little bit of a thrill, and the best part is that not all require tremendous skill! Of course, you could surf or kiteboard, but more novice beachgoers may go for jet skiing, paddleboarding, or kayaking to start out. One of our favorite places to rent these out is Island Water Sports in Deerfield Beach, located just a short walk away from the shore.

2. Day trip to Peanut Island

Just off the coast of Riviera Beach in the Palm Beach Inlet is the quaint Peanut Island, a man-made destination where many come to dock their boats and experience an island getaway close to home. Here, you can lounge on the beach, explore on canoes or kayaks, fish, picnic under huts, and so much more. 3. Explore Miami

Immerse yourself in an array of cultures, fine dining, shopping, and more by exploring our area’s largest, most iconic city: Miami. Exploring the city is definitely an all-day activity; you can shop in Brickell, walk down Ocean Drive by the beach, indulge in authentic Cuban food in Little Havana, visit one of the many museums or cultural centers, and so much more. Whether you go with friends or with the whole family, we recommend laying out a plan for all the spots you want to hit during your day trip.

4. Lounge by the pool or the beach at The Breakers Palm Beach

Whether you’re there for a staycation or simply reserve a bungalow for a day, you can’t miss visiting the luxurious The Breakers resort, where true rest and relaxation are achieved. Four pools, crystal clear waters along the shore, renowned on-site restaurants, and so much more await during your visit. If you’re feeling especially in-need of some TLC, book a spa service to make your stay just that much more magical.

5. Take an airport ride through The Everglades

Our region is home to one of the nation’s most prominent national parks, The Everglades. 1.5 million acres of wetlands make up this national park, where you can spot a Florida-native plants, like mangroves and marshes, as well as abundant wildlife, like manatees, the Florida panther, and of course, alligators. The best way to explore is by guided airboat ride, where you’re almost guaranteed to spot a live animal in its natural habitat.
